Beautiful stone relief carvings depicting Saint James (left), Saint Philip (center) and Saint Matthias (right) as found at the medieval ruins of Jerpoint Abbey in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Saints presented in this fashion are known as "Weepers." Sepia. An extensive library of imagery from Ireland is available in my galleries. This image is part of my Jerpoint Abbey Gallery.
Construction of Jerpoint Abbey was started by Donogh O'Donoghoe Mac Gilla Patraic, the King of Osraige, in 1180 AD. Jerpoint is famous for the number and variety of its stone carvings. The abbey flourished for several centuries until Henry VIII moved to dissolve all monasteries in Ireland. Today, Jerpoint is an Irish National Monument.
Travel-inspired (mostly) Fine Art & Photography published by the likes of Fodors, Travel+Leisure, Southern Living, Smithsonian, Forbes & TIME. I also use my images as source material to create digital art. We travel to places not just to see them, but to experience them. I take pictures to help me remember my experiences. My hope is that my imagery inspires experiential travel to places you might not have called on yet, or, if you have, helps you remember your own experiences. Thanks much for stopping by. Please feel free to direct any and all questions you might have to sobrien@TravelPixPro.com.
